Dr Francisco Albear, also Fernández de Lara, was a Spanish engineer born at Morro castle in Havana, Cuba, on January 11, 1816. He distinguished himself by building remarkable structures in Cuba, hence was a respected, celebrated civil engineer for the island and profession. The monument was designed by Cuban sculptor Jose Vilalta Saavedra and erected in a Havana park dedicated in his honor, in 1895.
